- Time of the day – Washing your face in the am and pm serve unique purposes. In the morning, washing the face helps to remove oil that has built up over the night. At the end of the day, dirt and grime that has accumulated during the day needs to be washed off.
- Temperature of the water– cold water does not effectively remove all the oil and dirt, and hot water may remove excess oils from our skin leaving it feeling dry. Therefore water that is lukewarm is the most ideal.
- The best face wash – It is ideal to select a face wash that doesn’t have too many harsh ingredients like Sodium lauryl sulfate. Sensitive skin needs mild non scented ingredients and oily skin is best suited to foaming cleansers that are mild. Sometimes, a face wash with Glycolic acid in low concentrations works well with oily skin to give it a more effective clean and shine.
- Technique – after applying water, lather soap in a circular motion to different parts of your face. Using a Clarisonic face brush, you can adjust the time depending on how deeply you want to wash your face. Ideally, you should wash for atleast 30 seconds.
Make sure to rinse your skin of all the soap once you are done. Leaving soap on your face can lead to dryness and irritation in those areas – particularly when makeup is applied over it.
